This doctoral study is a component of the transdisciplinary Gravitation initiative GreenTE (Green Tissue Engineering), which is a collaboration of seven Dutch universities.

Fully funded PhD positions at University of Palermo, Italy

By collaborating, GreenTE will be able to shed light on how plants perceive and react to mechanical stimuli. With these basic understandings, engineering interventions aimed at enhancing disease resistance, seed germination, and plant regeneration will be developed.

The selected candidate will play a key role in the GreenTE community, which provides a friendly varied, and stimulating atmosphere for conducting multidisciplinary mechanobiology research at the nexus of biology, chemistry, and physics. The applicant will also be expected to take part in training programs, events, and collaborations.

Postdoc Seed Desiccation – GreenTE
Wageningen University is seeking a bright, driven, and dedicated postdoctoral researcher to join the GreenTE Gravitation program for fully funded positions at Wageningen University. The candidate should be interested in figuring out the mechanosensing pathways underlying seed desiccation survival.

Plants need to yield dry seeds in order to endure in arid environments and to guarantee the continued survival of their species. Extreme water loss (also known as desiccation) during germination or seed development is a significant factor influencing the resistance, survival, and storage capacity of seeds.

Still, barely anything is understood about how dehydration is detected and incorporated into seed development initiatives. As a postdoctoral scholar, you will study the effects of mechanical and biochemical cues triggered by drying on the transcriptome (RNA-seq) and phosphoproteome in Arabidopsis thaliana seeds as they mature and germinate.

4-H scholarships Indiana
In addition to planning and carrying out experiments, interpreting the findings, and composing scientific publications, you will be able to assist in the instruction and supervision of both MSc and BSc students.

Qualities and experiences required for fully funded positions at Wageningen University:

  • PHENOTYPING
  • PHOSPHOPROTEOMICS
  • Maturation
  • DESICCATION
  • TOLERANCE
  • Germination
