The Shell Scholarship Fund supports students in the Department of Chemical & Biomolecular Engineering (ChBE) at the University of Houston for Malaysian students. Each scholarship has a minimum amount of $1,000. The number of scholarships each year depends on the availability of funds by the organization. The scholarship application deadline is the end of August and December of every year.

Students should fill out the Application Form for the ChBE Undergraduate Scholarship on the official website. Students must be juniors or seniors with a minimum CHEE GPA of 3.0. The Undergraduate Curriculum Committee of the CHBE department selects scholarship-getters. Scholars are announced in early September and by early January of each year.

The offering is for students to be sponsored by 2 tiers of A-levels and undergraduates in prestigious colleges and universities locally and overseas. This is subject to the academic performance of the candidates.

Eligibility Criteria for Shell Scholarship 2024

• Applicant must have Strong leadership skills and active participation in extracurricular activities such as societies and clubs, sports, etc.
• Students must not presently hold other scholarships/loans.
• Consistently strong academic achievements as follows:
  • Minimum 8As (A/A+) in Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) OR
  • Excellent O-level grades at IGCSE (A*/A)
• Before application, ensure that applicants are eligible to work in the country where the scholarship program is offered.
• Students must be 2022 SPM or 2023 O-Level leavers.
• Students must be willing to pursue A-levels at selected boarding institutions.

Scholarship Benefits

Even though it is not listed specifically on the Shell Scholarship Homepage, each scholarship Recipient is sponsored by the Corporation, meaning the scholarship will financially support student studies locally or overseas during your undergraduate education.

The sponsorship will include full coverage of your educational fees, room & board, and personal expenses (transportation, personal laptops, and more) of students. Shell Corporation didn’t list the specific benefits of its scholarship, but it says that this will sponsor the scholarship getters, so I think it will be the same as a full-ride scholarship.

In turn, every Shell Scholarship student must serve in this Corporation for a certain period after college graduation. Since applicants have been provided full funding during their college academic career, you are expected to pay them back through hard work and years of service.

How To Apply For Shell Scholarship 2024

Step 1: Online Application

Students must complete their application online – note you can save time by connecting to your LinkedIn profile. Before applying for the scholarship, ensure students can work in Malaysia. The application shouldn’t take more than 5-10 minutes to complete filling.

Step 2: Online Assessment

After the applicant applies, you will be asked to complete four online game-based assessments. These games measure various cognitive abilities and the working style preferences of candidates by presenting you with different challenges.

This will take approximately 20 minutes and must be completed within five days of receiving the assessment invite for confirmation.

Step 3: On-Demand Video Interview

If applicants have been shortlisted after STEP 2, you’ll be sent an invite to complete an on-demand video interview. This short, self-recorded video interview lets applicants tell us about themselves and their qualifications. You’ll also see some of our current graduates who will ask you a series of pre-recorded competency-based questions related to your field. 

Applicant may record the interview at any internet-enabled location at a time most convenient to you. For each question, the student has 30 seconds to prepare and 3 minutes to record your answer.

Step 4: Final Interview

This is the last assessment stage of the scholarship process, where the Scholarship Board of Trustees will interview you on scenario-based questions and your academic & leadership qualities.
